Camp Taylor is one of Louisville's most distinctly working-class, historically rich neighborhoods, built on the grounds of the World War I-era Camp Zachary Taylor army training base off Poplar Level Road. It's consistently one of the more affordable entry points into homeownership inside the Watterson Expressway, and Winner Realty works with first-time buyers and investors here regularly.

The Neighborhood

After the camp closed following WWI, the land was subdivided into small, efficient bungalows and cottages built quickly and affordably for returning veterans and working families — a pattern that still defines the housing stock today. Streets are narrow and gridded, lots are compact, and the neighborhood has a tight-knit, multi-generational feel that's increasingly rare this close to the city core.

What Homes Are Selling For

Based on recent MLS activity, sold prices in Camp Taylor have typically ranged from about $169,000 to $268,000 over the past year, with active listings priced similarly — making it one of the more accessible markets in Jefferson County for a first home or a straightforward rental property. Inventory turns over steadily, and well-priced, move-in-ready homes tend not to sit long.

Location and Access

Camp Taylor sits just off the Watterson Expressway (I-264) near Poplar Level Road, putting it within about 10 minutes of downtown, the airport, and the University of Louisville, and close to the shopping along Poplar Level and Preston Highway.
