The Douglass Loop takes its name from the streetcar turnaround that once operated at Bardstown Road and Douglass Boulevard; today it's a compact business district of restaurants, a movie theater, coffee shops, and boutiques. Bonnycastle is the residential neighborhood immediately surrounding it, bordered roughly by Bardstown Road, Trevilian Way, and Cherokee Park.

Bonnycastle's housing stock includes a real mix of early-1900s bungalows and Craftsman-style homes, larger traditional houses, and a number of apartment and condo conversions closer to the business district — giving buyers more entry points than some of the Highlands' pricier historic streets. This is about as walkable as real estate gets in Louisville: restaurants, the Highlands Theater (a classic second-run/dollar movie house), coffee shops, and boutiques all within a few blocks, plus Cherokee Park just to the west.
