Douglass Loop and Bonnycastle sit at the southern end of Louisville's Highlands, built around one of the neighborhood's best-loved business districts. If the broader Highlands is the destination, Douglass Loop is one of its most walkable, lived-in hearts — and it's worth a closer look on its own. For the wider area, see our Highlands real estate guide.
The Douglass Loop takes its name from the streetcar turnaround that once operated at Bardstown Road and Douglass Boulevard; today it's a compact business district of restaurants, a movie theater, coffee shops, and boutiques. Bonnycastle is the residential neighborhood immediately surrounding it, bordered roughly by Bardstown Road, Trevilian Way, and Cherokee Park.
Bonnycastle's housing stock includes a real mix of early-1900s bungalows and Craftsman-style homes, larger traditional houses, and a number of apartment and condo conversions closer to the business district — giving buyers more entry points than some of the Highlands' pricier historic streets. Based on recent (though limited) MLS activity, sold prices here have ranged widely, from the high-$700,000s up past $1.6 million, reflecting a market where lot size, square footage, and proximity to Cherokee Park all move the number significantly — we'd recommend a specific comparable-sales pull for any address you're considering, given how much variation exists block to block.
This is about as walkable as real estate gets in Louisville: restaurants, the Highlands Theater (a classic second-run/dollar movie house), coffee shops, and boutiques all within a few blocks, plus Cherokee Park just to the west. It's a genuine draw for buyers who want to walk to dinner most nights of the week.
Douglass Loop and Bonnycastle are served by Jefferson County Public Schools; confirm current attendance boundaries directly with JCPS.
