A quaint suburban house with a beautiful garden and brick driveway under a partly cloudy sky.

Along with Anchorage and Glenview, Indian Hills is one of the small independent cities that make up Louisville's storied River Road corridor — sometimes called the city's "Gold Coast." It's one of the most exclusive residential addresses in Jefferson County, and Winner Realty gets regular questions about what it takes to buy in.

Where It Is

Indian Hills sits along US 42 (River Road) in eastern Jefferson County, bordered by the Ohio River to the north and Glenview and Rolling Fields nearby. Like Anchorage, it's a separate incorporated city with its own local government, which gives residents more control over zoning and development than most of the surrounding county.

Homes and Lots

Large, wooded lots are the defining feature here — many well over an acre, some considerably more — which gives Indian Hills a private, estate-like feel unusual this close to a major city. Architecture ranges from mid-century modern homes (the area has a real concentration of them, several by notable regional architects) to grand traditional estates. Based on recent MLS activity, sold prices in Indian Hills have typically ranged from roughly $500,000 into the $1 million-plus range, with occasional sales well above that for the largest estate properties — reflecting how much lot size and architectural pedigree drive value here.

Schools and Lifestyle

Indian Hills is served by Jefferson County Public Schools; buyers should confirm current attendance boundaries directly with JCPS. The River Road corridor's biggest lifestyle draw is exactly what it sounds like — river access and a wooded, low-density setting, all still within a short drive of St. Matthews, downtown Louisville, and the Gene Snyder Freeway.
