Giving Back at Winner Realty: Our 1% Commitment to Hand in Hand

Winner Realty gives away 1% of its net profits every year — not as a one-time gesture, but as a standing commitment written into how the brokerage operates. It goes to Hand in Hand, a Louisville-based nonprofit that meets housing, education, and health care needs for people who are economically vulnerable, both here at home and abroad. And it doesn’t stop at the brokerage level: any Winner Realty agent can personally match that same 1% on their own closings. Giving isn’t a marketing line here. It’s baked into our DNA.

Our 1% Commitment

Every year, Winner Realty donates 1% of its net profits to Hand in Hand. It’s not tied to a single campaign or a good year — it’s a standing part of how the brokerage runs, the same way payroll or E&O insurance is. The commitment predates any award or recognition for it, and it isn’t contingent on one.

Agents Can Match It, Too

The 1% commitment doesn’t stop with the brokerage. Any Winner Realty agent can opt in, closing by closing, to personally match that same 1% with a contribution of their own to Hand in Hand — on top of what the brokerage already gives. It’s voluntary, it’s per-deal, and it puts the choice to give in the hands of the person who closed the transaction, not just the company that employs them.

That’s the difference between a brokerage that writes one check a year and a brokerage where giving is something every agent has the option to make personal.

How It Started

Winner Realty’s relationship with Hand in Hand traces back to Rob Bergeron’s mentor, Harry Borders — owner of Borders & Borders, a multi-generation Louisville title company, and someone Rob has watched and learned from for well over a decade. Harry got Rob plugged into Hand in Hand and invited him on his first trip with the organization. That relationship is where the brokerage’s giving commitment started, and it’s part of why it has stuck.

Recognized by GLAR — But Not Built for the Recognition

In 2026, Winner Realty was named a Brokerage Spirit Honoree by the Greater Louisville Association of REALTORS® (GLAR) — a brokerage-level recognition that isn’t judged on dollars raised. GLAR’s criteria look at whether giving is a lasting, brokerage-wide culture: the extent and reach of the contribution, whether it’s a one-time initiative or an ongoing one, service to underrepresented communities, and whether giving shows up at every level of the office, not just at the top. Read more about the award and what it’s judged on.

About Hand in Hand

Hand in Hand Ministries was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood. It works across four regions — Louisville, Appalachian Kentucky, Belize, and Nicaragua — meeting housing, education, and health care needs for people who are economically vulnerable, largely through safe-housing repairs, its Pathway to Change education program, and volunteer immersion trips that connect people with the communities they serve. It’s a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Learn more at myhandinhand.org.

Get Involved

If you’re a client working with Winner Realty, this commitment is already part of every closing. If you’re an agent considering joining the brokerage, ask any current agent what the matching program actually looks like in practice — or schedule a time to talk about joining a brokerage where giving isn’t an afterthought.
